How to get Involved
The first thing you should do, event if you're not a paid member, is join the mailing list (details on the Contact Info page) as this will ensure you get updates on society events, talks, trips and socials.
Next, email the committee with your suggestions - this provides us with ideas and ensures we arrange events that interest you (again, details on the Contact Info page).
Finally, come along to the events - they are ran for you and the higher the turnout the better the event will be, besdides you won't make any friends watching TV at home!
Attending Committee Meetings
Committee meetings are usually held weekly. For information on where and when you should contact the Secretary who's job it is to arrange the meetings, prepare and circulate the agenda.
All paid members are welcome to attend committee meetings and may request issues to be added to the agenda, raise them at the meeting and take part in any discussion. Where possible the Secretary should be emailed in advance and a request made to add an item to the agenda.
It should be noted, however, that the Constitution only allows elected members of the committee to vote. This means that whilst paid members can attend committee meetings and join in the debate the elected committee are wholly responsible for the end decision.
For inquiries about previuos meetings the minutes are available from this site on the Minutes page. If the minutes prove inadequate the Secretary should be contacted.
Becoming a Committee Member
The most obvious way to become a committee member is to stand in the Winter by-elections or the Spring full elections. The Winter by-elections are held to elect the Stage One Liasion Officer whilst all other positions are elected in Spring.
Following the 2008 AGM unelected members may be appointed to the position of 'Committee Member' at the discretion of the committee where a member has undertaken work on behalf of the committee regularly.
